• The campaign aims to protect the vulnerable high
Andean populations of Peru from the cold, in the face of the effects caused by
frost and snowfall.
The severe cold wave facing the High Andean areas of our country has been causing damage to the life, health, education, agricultural and livestock activity, and infrastructure of its inhabitants.
Especially affected are the most vulnerable populations: children and the elderly, who cannot buy warm clothes because of their poverty. To date, the media has reported an alarming increase in the number of cases of children affected with pneumonia and of four deaths.
The situation has exceeded the response capacity of the Regional Governments of Apurímac, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Junín, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno and Tacna, and, therefore, with Supreme Decrees N ° 060-2018 PCM and 062- 2018 PCM, dated June 12 and 21, 2018, the Peruvian Government has declared the State of Emergency, due to imminent danger as a consequence of the occurrence of frost and snowfall, in 64 districts of 28 provinces located in the aforementioned regions.
This initiative, driven and promoted by the WIESE FOUNDATION, aims to serve as a starting point for the activation of a nationwide humanitarian aid campaign that provides warm clothing to children between 0 and 12 years old and to adults over 60 years of age from the affected regions, through the delivery of warm clothing kits valued at S/ 50, containing a sweater, a cap, a scarf and a pair of wool gloves.
The first delivery, co-funded by the WIESE FOUNDATION and ADRA PERU, will be of 1,000 kits in order to help an equal number of people (800 children and 200 older adults) in the high Andean areas of the boundary between the regions of Tacna and Puno, as it is one of the most remote, vulnerable and least attended to areas nationwide.
With all the money raised by the Wiese Foundation for this campaign, warm clothing kits will be delivered to the duly registered affected people, in coordination with the Regional Emergency Operations Centers (COER). In all cases, the deliveries will be made directly by ADRA, through its volunteers, and supervised by the WIESE FOUNDATION. At the end of the campaign, the WIESE FOUNDATION will issue and send to its donors a campaign closing report, reporting on the districts and people attended to, as well as the income and expenses of the campaign.
These warm clothing kits include: sweater, scarf, woolen cap and wool gloves. Efforts will be made to purchase warm clothing kits in the affected regions themselves in order to also contribute to the economy and the generation of jobs in the areas to intervene.
