The Importance of Early Cancer Screening

In Peru, the incidence of cancer is increasing. This information is supported by GLOBOCAN, an entity that indicates that more than 70,000 new cases are registered annually in the country, resulting in more than 35,000 deaths.

Early cancer screening saves lives

Importancia del despistaje de cáncer

Cancer screening is the most effective medical evaluation to detect this disease in its early stage, which increases the chances that this condition may be overcome.

Although screening is important, the lack of access to specialized cancer care services is a critical problem in Peru, especially for the most vulnerable and low-income people, as they face different limitations in accessing cancer prevention services and find it difficult to obtain access to specialized cancer screening tests, which further worsens their situation of vulnerability.

The Wiese Foundation and the League Against Cancer unite for cancer prevention in Peru

prevención del cáncer en el Perú

The Wiese Foundation and the League Against Cancer join forces to combat the gap in access to quality health care and to prevent cancer in Peru. Thanks to a collaboration agreement, both organizations have been executing a project that seeks to increase cancer detection coverage through efficient and quality services.

The project included the acquisition and conditioning of a mobile unit for the development of cancer preventive actions, which has been touring different vulnerable areas of the country to provide specialized care and perform cancer screening exams. As part of the actions, orientation and awareness campaigns are also being carried out to strengthen the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices in the intervened population.
