‘Estamos Juntos por tu Bienestar,’ a Fundación Wiese Campaign Providing Humanitarian Aid to Over 5,000 People in La Libertad

More than 1,000 vulnerable households in the eight districts of the Ascope province in the La Libertad region will benefit from the ‘Estamos juntos por tu bienestar’ campaign, organized by Fundación Wiese in partnership with Montpelier Foundation, Adra Perú, and Asociación Red Suma.

The purpose of this new campaign—under the framework of Fundación Wiese’s Humanitarian Aid Program—is to help alleviate the impact of the health crisis and its severe economic consequences on the most vulnerable people in the districts of Rázuri, Chicama, Santiago de Cao, Chocope, Paiján, Casa Grande, Magdalena de Cao, and Ascope. The beneficiaries will receive food aid, medical care, and counseling for comprehensive health care.

Food Assistance

This consists of directly delivering non-perishable food items sufficient to feed at least 1,000 identified and registered vulnerable families for 14 days, according to international humanitarian aid standards. These food items are already at Fundación Wiese’s facilities in the area and will be distributed following a schedule coordinated with community leaders in each district. The food baskets include rice, pasta, oats, split peas, lentils, canned fish, evaporated milk, oil, and sugar.

Health Campaign

The health campaign will take place at four strategic points within the province, previously identified by ADRA in coordination with local authorities. A team of 30 health professionals and technicians, along with an additional brigade of volunteers, will provide 1,000 medical consultations in specialties such as general medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, triage services, COVID-19 preventive counseling, and pharmacy services. All services and products will be provided free of charge to address the main non-complex morbidities in the area.

Beneficiary Identification

Over 5,000 people from the most impoverished areas of the province will benefit from the ‘Estamos juntos por tu bienestar’ campaign. These individuals were identified by local authorities and represent the most vulnerable segment of the population, with the highest Poverty Probability Index (PPI). The first stage of the campaign was executed between September 14 and 28, collecting socio-economic data in all the districts with the collaboration of local health entities, district municipalities, and leaders of various community associations. The PPI survey is an internationally applied tool used by ADRA to prioritize beneficiaries for humanitarian aid campaigns.

Special Case Attention

For the 10% of registered families facing the most critical vulnerabilities and unable to access food distribution or health services, two mobile brigades, consisting of doctors, technical staff, and logistical support, will be deployed to bring assistance to these families. This ensures that the most neglected individuals receive the necessary care and support.

Campaign Funding Contributions

Although Fundación Wiese led the organization of this humanitarian campaign, it is only possible due to the commitment of two Peruvian families with the country, especially with the Ascope province, a commitment that spans over 60 years. These families, through their foundations—Montpelier Foundation and Fundación Augusto N. Wiese—have provided the financial resources to hire all the teams involved, as well as to purchase the food, medicine, and logistics services required.

Our Allies in the Campaign

ADRA is one of the leading non-governmental organizations in the world, present in over 130 countries, and is also registered with the Peruvian Agency for International Technical Cooperation (APCI). In Peru, ADRA has operated since 1965, addressing emergency and disaster situations, among other projects.

Asociación Red Suma is a non-profit organization based in Peru that focuses on promoting projects for the development of communities or social sectors in exclusion. It is part of a private corporation specializing in health care, in partnership with the Peruvian State.

Both ADRA and Asociación Red Suma have been strategic partners of Fundación Wiese for five years, working together on various projects.

Through this campaign, we close the institutional activities planned for 2021, and we are proud to do so in Ascope, an area where Fundación Wiese has maintained a continuous presence for over three decades, dedicated to research, conservation, and social use of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, a cultural space now considered national heritage.
