In response to the global healthcare emergency triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, Fundación Wiese has quintupled its usual financial contribution to its annual Humanitarian Aid Program, aiming to save lives, support healthcare professionals, and provide economic support to families most vulnerable who have not received government aid to cope with the crisis.
To achieve this as quickly as possible while complying with social distancing measures set by the government, Fundación Wiese has launched various initiatives with the help of its allies. To date, a donation has been made to acquire mechanical ventilators for severe patients, and a first donation of medical instruments has been delivered to the Pan American Village.
However, this crisis not only affects infected patients and healthcare workers; it has also had a severe economic impact, affecting over 6 million people in extreme poverty in Peru, who have become the most affected group during the mandatory quarantine.
ADRA PERÚ, FUNDACIÓN WIESE, and PANAMERICANA TV have once again joined forces to launch the ¡ESTAMOS JUNTOS! campaign to help families living on less than S/20 soles daily, who have not received any economic assistance from the government.
What does the aid consist of and how do we ensure it reaches them?
The goal is to assist 5,000 extremely poor families in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Puno, Ucayali, San Martín, and Cajamarca (Jaén). ADRA and FUNDACIÓN WIESE have already contributed to the first 2,000 families. We call on kind-hearted individuals and organizations to join the campaign.
ADRA and FUNDACIÓN WIESE will raise funds to provide S/100 soles in cash to extreme poverty-stricken women who head families. Along with the cash, an instructional guide will explain what foods to buy to assemble an emergency food basket for a family of five, lasting 7 to 10 days.
The emergency food basket will supply 75% of the recommended daily energy and macronutrient intake for a family of 5, totaling 2,100 kcal per person, as recommended by the United Nations for emergency situations.
ADRA will use its microfinance platform, which has been operating successfully in Peru for over 23 years, to ensure the donations reach the defined beneficiaries.
For Our Doctors
With the funds raised, additional efforts will be made to donate PPE for our healthcare professionals on the frontlines and medical instruments like mechanical ventilators, oxygenators, nebulizers, and breathing equipment.
