The Wiese Foundation provided humanitarian aid to El Niño surviving families in Sechura

  • Within the framework of its campaign “Together for the NorththeWiese Foundation made its third delivery of dry foods kits to serve 500 surviving families in the province of Sechura, in the Piura region.

To date, several areas of Peru face a desolate panorama caused by the sudden and intense rainfall due to the presence of the Coastal El Niño Phenomenon. The regions of Tumbes, Piura and Lambayeque have been declared in a level-5 State of Emergency, which corresponds to a disaster of great magnitude that exceeds the country’s response capacity.

These climatic anomalies have not only entailed thousands of disaster survivors, but also the loss of lives. According to a recent report from INDECI (National Civil Defense Institute), in the province of Sechura 462 people are disaster survivors and 7,064 are affected ones, as well as 55 homes destroyed, 104 uninhabitable homes and 2,166 affected homes.

What foods are included in the kits?

Each raw food kit is designed to feed a family of 4 members for 5 days. With this, we seek to bring relief to the critical situation that the aforementioned families are going through, attending to their food needs, while they manage to resume their economic sustenance activities.

At the Wiese Foundation, we reaffirm our work and commitment to helping the most vulnerable communities during emergencies and disasters. Learn more about our Humanitarian Aid Program here.
