Wiese Foundation and its participation in Próceres del Bicentenario (National Heroes of the Independence Bicentennial)

The Foundation is part of the selection and investment committee of Próceres del Bicentenario, an initiative that looks for Peruvian undertakings with a social value, whose goal is to elevate the community in which they work.

Since a few months ago, 21 social undertakings have become part of Próceres del Bicentenario, an initiative led together by Mosaico Laboratorio CreativoKunan and UTEC, in alliance with Wiese Foundation and other organizations.

Próceres del Bicentenario looked for men and women in Peru who were committed, courageous and highly dignified, with teams who had a clear understanding that good work is accomplished with ethics and values, and whose goal was to elevate the community in which they work.

The undertakings that were selected to be a part of Próceres del Bicentenario were chosen among 200 organizations, whether for profit or not, but with social value. The finalists of this contest are:

Agros ‘Cultivamos Futuro’ (Piura), MiPequeñaAyuda (Cuzco), Arbio (Lima), Asociación Enlazando (Arequipa), Banco de Alimentos Perú (Lima), Dando+ Voluntariado de Psicología (Lima), Ecologics (Lima), EVAND’S (Huánuco), Igua (Lima), Juntas (Lima), Kantaya (Lima), Ligas Femeninas F7 (Lima), Ocupa tu calle (Lima), Presente (Lima), Qhispikay Glamping (Cusco), RedPro – Red de Desarrollo Profesional (Lima), RONAP – Recolectores Orgánicos de la Nuez Amazónica del Perú (Madre de Dios), Semilla Intercultural (Junín), Silabuz (Lima), Simbiosis (Lambayeque) and Sinba (Lima).

These organizations were selected because they address environmental challenges, women’s empowerment, basic and high education, gender diversity, mental health and urbanism, among others.

Being a part of Próceres del Bicentenario gives them access to acceleration plans, mentorships, consultancies, and it also prepares them to participate in a millionaire social investment fund in order to obtain non-reimbursable donations for at least S/100,000.

Moreover, these 21 undertakings shall have visibility in print media with the Seal of Bicentenario, this last benefit thanks to an alliance with the Office of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

Wiese Foundation and Próceres del Bicentenario

The role of Wiese Foundation within Próceres del Bicentenario is key, as it is part of the selection and investment committee, together with other renowned organizations. This committee is charged with the evaluation and selection of all the social undertakings participating in the program, in order to identify those which will finally receive funds oriented to the growth of their operations and social impact.

Próceres del Bicentenario to date

So far, several acceleration programs have been developed, which were run by organizations such as Huete&Co, Enseña Perú, Njambre and IBM. Furthermore, a series of workshops was provided in order that each undertaking may define its operational vision, its strategy and its critical conflicts. Finally, we have conducted workshops on financial advice and on developing an action plan, with the only purpose that the 21 finalists may apply for the Bicentennial Acceleration Fund.

Thus far, the program is in its mentorship phase, which is being run by 23 specialists so they may guide the Próceres (National Heroes) throughout eight sessions of personalized learning.

Finally, the Próceres were also able to participate in an international crowd-funding event thanks to the alliance with The Funding Network and The Mott Foundation from the United Kingdom. The winning undertakings in this event were Kantaya, My SmallHelp and OcupaTuCalle, who collected a total of almost US$ 25,000.

Próceres del Bicentenario going ahead

As was mentioned before, Próceres del Bicentenario started its mentorship phase with the support from allied consultants who were coupled with the social undertakings, depending on the challenges that they face, in order to work together for at least eight sessions. Some of these specialists are from organizations such as KPMG, UTEC Ventures, BCP Lab, Grade and NESsT, among others. Próceres del Bicentenario shall continue with the workshops of the acceleration program, which will provide training on topics such as storytelling, impact measurement, innovation, governance, etc.  This shall be conducted by specialists from Harvard University, Accenture, Laboratoria, Kiva and more.
