Social Entrepreneurship: Lima, Cusco and San Martín are the regions with the highest rate of social entrepreneurship

  • According to a report by the Wiese Foundation, after the recent completion of the nationwide call for entries for the Entrepreneur Fund, the regions with the highest rate of social enterprises and those distributed by the productive sector stand out.

Lima, February 02, 2023.- A growing number of entrepreneurs seek to do business in order to address the country’s social problems and thus achieve a positive impact on the vulnerable populations that face them.

After the recent completion of the call for entries for the second edition of its social innovation program, the Entrepreneur Fund, the Wiese Foundation reports that 42% of the applications received correspond to ventures in Lima, while 68% come from 21 other regions nationwide, with Cusco (9%) and San Martín (6%) concentrating the largest numbers.

The aforementioned report also indicates that among the productive sectors to which the applicant ventures belong, the following stand out: agriculture and stockbreeding and/or agroindustry (33%), education (10%), cultural industry and art (10%), sustainable fashion (6%), sustainable utilization of biodiversity (6%).

Finally, it is reported that 59% of the applications received indicated that they were linked to Peru’s material and immaterial cultural heritage.

It is possible to do business in a manner that is more conscious, more inclusive and more sustainable: “at the Wiese Foundation, we believe in the power of the cultural heritage, as a creator of legacy, as a generator of identity and socioeconomic development for Peruvians. Also, we are convinced of the urgent need to improve the level of educational quality that the country offers its citizens, in order to unlock this way our path as a Nation towards inclusive and sustainable progress”, says Ingrid Claudet, general manager of the Wiese Foundation.

To contribute to the development of the country by supporting and promoting the social entrepreneurship ecosystem, the Wiese Foundation created the “Entrepreneur Fund” program in 2018. In its second edition, the aforementioned program will finance selected enterprises with S/150 thousand, mainly under the modality of credits with very favorable conditions, also providing them with training and professional accompaniment for 18 months.

At the Wiese Foundation, we thank each of the entrepreneurs for their participation, and our valuable allies, who have been a fundamental part in this first stage of the call for entries.
