The Wiese Foundation and the League Against Cancer: United in the Fight for Early Detection of Cancer

  • Within the framework of the alliance between the two institutions, to date, we have provided nearly 40% of the free care scheduled for the first year of operations in vulnerable areas of Lima and other provinces of the country.

The Wiese Foundation, in collaboration with the League Against Cancer, is making a difference in the fight against this devastating disease. So far in 2023, they have provided an impressive total of 4,379 free cancer screenings, a crucial step in successful prevention and treatment.

The mobile unit of both institutions is a true center of hope on wheels. Equipped with two fully prepared consultation offices and a highly trained medical team, it offers a vital range of exams designed especially for women over the age of 18. These tests include the IVAA test (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid), clinical examination of breasts, lymph nodes, thyroid and skin. Each of these procedures is an essential piece in the puzzle of early cancer detection.

This mobile unit has toured several districts of Lima, such as San Martín de Porres, Villa María del Triunfo, San Juan de Miraflores, Puente Piedra and Lince, as well as the provinces of Ica and Cañete, to date. These strategically selected locations demonstrate a commitment to providing quality and accessible services to as many people as possible.

Raising awareness about the prevention and screening of cancer

The mission of this collaborative work goes beyond medical testing. Raising awareness and educating about the importance of preventive checkups is an integral part of their work. Both institutions have organized information fairs in collaboration with the League Against Cancer volunteer network to spread the message of early detection and responsible health care.

Upcoming free care locations

The mobile unit has its sights set on the future and its next destination has already been defined: the province of Barranca, from September 18 to 24. This exemplary initiative demonstrates that, with the right combination of resources and dedication, we can make a real impact in the fight against cancer and guarantee that communities have access to quality health care without economic barriers.

  • Barranca – September 18 through 24
  • Huacho – October 2 through 8

About the alliance

The signing of an inter-institutional collaboration agreement on October 15, 2022, marked the formal start of the alliance between the Wiese Foundation and the League Against Cancer. The objective of this agreement was the acquisition and conditioning of a mobile unit equipped with itinerant medical consultation offices, which would allow the provision of specialized services for the prevention and early detection of cancer, not only in Lima, but also, for the first time, in other regions of the country.

The health campaigns conducted within the framework of the aforementioned inter-institutional alliance are 100% free of charge and aimed at people who, due to their condition of economic vulnerability, do not have access to specialized services. In this way, the allied institutions aspire to provide greater opportunities to the affected population to defeat this disease. Learn more about this valuable alliance in the following video:
