Workshops on Socioemotional Skills

The project “School and Identity, learning and working together in the region” contributes to promoting positive interpersonal relationships based on respect, equity, and trust among all the members of the educational community in the schools located in the area of influence of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex.

This project aims to significantly strengthen the school climate and improve learning. The project is implemented with pedagogical mentoring to make practices more relevant and democratic. Also, there is a component for the development of socioemotional skills in administrators and teachers from the schools.

This strengthening takes place through workshops for teachers, administrators, and members of the education community on management of Socioemotional Skills. In these workshops, tools and exercises for the development of these skills and interpersonal relationships are provided.

These are spaces of reflection, analysis, and problem solving, with the goal of developing these skills in the administrators, teachers, aides, etc. so that they can manage their emotions.

Humberto Barboz, a teacher from IE 80046, shares: “I would like to say that for us, these workshops are excellent, we learn, we reflect together about ourselves. I would like to congratulate this space that we have.”

The workshops are directed at teachers, administrators, and school personnel from the 14 focus schools.

They focus on five socioemotional skills, organized into four principal concepts and one transversal concept.

The four principal concepts are:

Sense of purpose: The objective is for administrators and teachers to be able to recognize their love and vocation for what they do, allowing them to be motivated in their work, as well as visualize goals and feel willing to achieve them through confidence in their abilities and perseverance despite challenges.

Communication: The goal is to strengthen the ability to express themselves, perceiving and understanding the emotional state of other people, working on empathy, in order to develop good interpersonal communication among administrators and teachers, as well as in all the spaces of the school, to achieve an emotional closeness that is manifested from an ethical position.

Emotional management: This provides tools to manage their emotions: to identify, recognize, validate, and orient them for the benefit of themselves and the people around them.

Collaborative work: This strengthens the ability to form healthy connections with other people, seeking a common objective and being capable of looking for a positive outcome for all parties. It looks to accustom them to contexts of interaction and social cooperation to develop thinking: contrasting points of view and opinions, causing reflection, critical thinking, and solidarity.

The transversal concept is Self-Awareness: This is the ability that allows people to recognize their self-image by understanding and accepting their feelings, abilities, strengths, and areas for improvement.

All of this formative work through workshops is led by qualified coaches, in collaboration with the UGEL Ascope under an agreement with the Regional Government of La Libertad.
